As per the new move, the tax levied per square meter on houses in gram panchayaths has been increased from the existing Rs 3-8 to Rs 6-10. In municipalities, the house tax was reduced from Rs 6-15 per square foot to Rs 8-17. Meanwhile, in corporations, the rate has been increased from Rs 8-20 to Rs 10-22. The increase was not mentioned in the budget but came into effect on April 1. With this, the property tax fixed on the basis of the revised rate will increase by five percent every year.
